Coronavirus (COVID-1) Management Plan

We would like to assure all of our patients that The Musculoskeletal Institute at Hurstville and Hurstville Private Hospital has developed a comprehensive COVID-19 Management Plan to ensure that we protect the health of our employees, doctors and patients.

Our approach is focussed on health management and continuity of services as detailed below:

Infection prevention

Infection prevention measures implemented within our clinic and hospital include:

  • Communication of effective infection prevention practices – Hand hygiene, Social distancing
  • Temperature checks with patient surveys upon entry to clinic – patients with respiratory illness or symptoms are asked to stay at home
  • Mandatory self-isolation in line with government guidelines
  • Ongoing communication of advice and resources developed by the Department of Health
  • Advance procurement of additional PPE where required
  • Additional training in the use of PPE for all staff

Service continuity

We are well advanced in our planning to ensure that we are able to support our patients and continue with the following services;

  • Physiotherapy
  • Fracture Clinic
  • Dietitian
  • Sports Medicine Physician
  • Orthopaedic Specialists
  • Required surgeries

What we need from our patients;

DO NOT attend the hospital or appointments if you;

  • Have returned from overseas (any country) within the last 14 days
  • Have been in close contact with a person with confirmed/suspected COVID-19 during the 14 days prior to presenting to the facility
  • Have a fever OR respiratory symptoms (even if mild) (Fever, temperature >37.5C OR cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, rapid breathing, a sore throat, or a runny nose, with or without fever)
  • Have a fever AND respiratory symptoms (even if mild)

If you answer YES to any of the above contact your GP or nearest emergency department (call ahead first).

Social distancing

One way to slow the spread of viruses is social distancing. There are practical things you can do, to protect those more susceptible to the virus.

Households

  • Practice good hand and cough/sneeze hygiene
  • Avoid handshaking and other physical greetings
  • Regularly clean shared high-touch surfaces, such as tables, kitchen benches and doorknobs
  • Increase the amount of fresh air by opening windows or adjusting air conditioning
  • Buy more goods and services online so you limit visits to the shop
  • Consider what travel and outings are necessary, both individual and family, and go to open places such as parks

Social distancing

To reduce the spread of germs;

  • Stay at home if you are sick
  • Consider if large gatherings can be rescheduled, staggered or cancelled
  • Stop handshaking and other physical greetings
  • Hold meetings via video conferencing or phone call
  • Reconsider non-essential business and personal travel
  • Defer large face-to-face meetings
  • Hold essential meetings outside in the open air if possible
  • Promote good hand and cough/sneeze hygiene
  • Take lunch outside rather than in the lunch room
  • Clean and disinfect shared high-touch surfaces regularly
  • Consider opening windows and adjusting air conditioning for more fresh air
  • Limit food handling and shared food
  • Promote strictest hygiene among food preparation (canteen) staff and their close contacts
